How we evaluate

The same criteria on every guide

We assess published specifications, materials, intended use and warranty terms. Where we have not used something ourselves, we say so.

  • Quality

What materials and construction does the manufacturer publish, and how is the item finished?

  • Durability

What is the expected service life, and which parts are the published failure points?

  • Performance

Does it do the job it is sold for, under the conditions fans actually use it in?

  • Value

What does it cost against comparable options at the same specification?

  • Ease of use

How much setup, cleanup and storage does it demand on a normal day out?

  • Intended use

Is it designed for casual, frequent or competitive use, and does that match you?

  • Warranty and returns

What does the manufacturer or retailer publish for warranty terms and returns?
